The 1945 adaptation was quite good and I am looking foreword to a modern adaptation although it bothers me that the film will not be released in America. The trailer looked good and one should never enter a theater and expect any film to measure up to the sterling standards of the author's original work--although I am more than willing to bet this film does at least a descent job. It stands to reason that if everyone who attends the film are raging fans of the original piece of work--much like Potter fans--they may leave the room somewhat disgruntled--as they sometimes are. A film with a little depth never hurt anybody (but you have to be careful these days--to much and the audience rejects it and you have a film that flops) However I am willing to bet that not everyone has even read the book, and adding Colin Firth to the mix will certainly help any film along. Thus it stands to reason that Dorian Gray will probably be worth your money, even if this average American will have to wait a little bit longer than the lucky Europeans and Canadians.
